Job description

At Rosebel Gold Mines, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Investment Lead to join our Community Relations department.

The Community Investment Lead will be responsible for the overall supervision and guidance of the Community Relations officers and maintaining an up-to-date and in-depth understanding of RGM's Communities of Interest (COIs) and the broader districts of Brokopondo and Sipilawini. At the same time, the Community Investment Lead will lead the periodic review of all community benefits initiatives and provide strategic input to the overall Community Relations strategy, with the goal of maintaining positive, mutually beneficial relationships with local communities and promoting sustainable community development.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the CRD’s day-to-day community benefits program and providing strategic direction for continual improvement.
  • Supervising the Community Relations Officers in the effective implementation of community benefits programs.
  • Leading periodic evaluations of the community benefits program and adapting approaches as required.
  • Guiding the CRD’s approach to community investment to maintain social license to operate.
  • Maintaining regular communication with internal and external community benefits stakeholders.
  • Ensuring activities are planned, implemented, and monitored in accordance with the Community Relations Management System.
  • Contributing to the strategic planning process for CRD and other relevant departments.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A master’s degree in Community Relations, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in local content development programs, social science research, conflict resolution, community investment, sustainable community development, including at least 5 years of field experience in a developing country and 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Ability to manage complex and diverse project portfolios with limited resources and under demanding timelines.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse and complex environment with people of varying abilities and competencies.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and diplomatic skills as well as high level of cultural awareness and understanding.
  • A valid Surinamese driver’s license.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English and speaking knowledge of Sranan Tongo. Maroon language is an asset.
  • Willingness to work on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break.
