Job description

As an HR Advisor, Employee Engagement & Labor Relations at Rosebel Gold Mines N.V., you will play a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between the company and its employees. Your primary responsibilities will include handling employee grievances, conduct investigations, and provide guidance on labor laws, resolve workplace conflicts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Your key responsibilities will include:


Promote sound labor relations with the union representing the Rosebel employees and advise on corrective and preventive action.

  • Investigate and evaluate union/employee complaints or arguments to determine viability.

  • Investigate disciplinary matters and provide proper advice in line with the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) and local legislation.

  • Assist with negotiating collective bargaining agreements.

Attendance and voluntary/involuntary termination cases:

  • Investigate and analyze causes for employees’ staff absences.

  • Provide advice and recommendations on related disciplinary actions for offenders.

  • Represent RGM at Dismissal Board hearings, and meetings with the Ministry of Labor and external governing agencies.

Employees Relations and Communications:

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed/required.

  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation in line with the Code of Conduct (COC) and CLA.

  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations as per COC and CLA during the management of grievances.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in labor law or human resources management.

  • In-depth understanding of the application of employment-related legislation and various policies and procedures regulating employment conditions, workplace conflict, and resolution.

  • At least 5 years’ labor relations experience working in a unionized environment.

  • Professionalism and discretion to maintain confidential information.

  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, charts, and formulas and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Good negotiating skills; conflict resolution skills; labor relations legislative interpreting skills; project management skills; group facilitation skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadline.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English, Mandarin language is an asset.

  • Willingness to work at the Rosebel Gold Mines site, primarily in Brokopondo, on a rotational schedule of five (5) consecutive working days (Monday to Friday), followed by two (2) consecutive days off, in accordance with operational requirements.

  • If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goedgedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.

Working Conditions – HR Advisor

The HR Advisor works in a combination of office and field environments at the Rosebel Gold Mines operation. The role requires regular interaction with hiring managers, employees, candidates, contractors, and external stakeholders.

  • Primarily based at the Rosebel Mine Site in Brokopondo, with regular travel between the mine site and Paramaribo as required.

  • Standard work schedule of 5 days on / 2 days off (Monday to Friday), 12 hours per day, with occasional additional hours to meet operational recruitment priorities.

  • Regular field visits to operational departments, workshops, processing plants, and contractor work areas to support recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning activities.

  • Regular participation in recruitment campaigns, career fairs, community outreach programs, networking events, and educational institution visits. The role requires flexibility to attend recruitment activities during and outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as operational and business needs dictate.

  • Exposure to mining site conditions, including dust, noise, heat, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions during field activities.

  • Required to comply with all Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), security, and site access requirements, including the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering operational areas.

  • The role involves managing multiple recruitment processes simultaneously while working under tight deadlines and changing operational priorities.

  • Occasional travel, weekend work, or extended hours may be required to support recruitment events, onboarding activities, emergency hiring needs, or other operational requirements.
