
Job description
The Wear Technician is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the performance and longevity of critical wear components in mobile mining equipment. The role ensures the effective implementation of wear management programs, including undercarriage systems, Bucket & G.E.T., oil health analysis, and major component maintenance, to minimize equipment downtime, reduce operational costs, and enhance reliability. Through proactive planning, quality assurance, and collaboration with maintenance teams, the technician supports continuous improvement initiatives and ensures operational efficiency across all equipment fleets.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Monitor and manage undercarriage wear, Bucket and ground engaging tools wear, and truck boxes.
Maintain stock inventory by ensuring adherence to min/max levels and checking spare cores.
Conduct QA/QC checks on undercarriage rebuilds (field and shop).
Improve efficiency, extend equipment life, and reduce costs through continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide weekly and monthly reports on equipment status, risks, and replacement forecasts.
Manage inspection schedules and data accuracy for Surmac and Minequip CTS teams.
Monitor oil analysis for critical issues and long-term trends.
Oversee oil health programs and ensure sampling QA/QC compliance.
Collaborate with planners and supervisors to optimize work order planning and execution.
Job requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
A minimum of a Secondary High School diploma (NATIN/AMTO) in Mechanics or related technical field.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance or wear management within heavy equipment or mining operations.
Knowledge of reliability fundamentals, including oil analysis, wear monitoring, and failure analysis (FMEA).
Proficiency in using CTS software and Oracle EAM.
Training in lock-out tag-out and lubrication excellence practices.
Hands-on experience with undercarriage components, oil health programs, and equipment wear monitoring.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with peers and cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Intermediate Excel skills for forecasting, including functions and graphing.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in field environments.
A valid Surinamese driver’s license.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English (Mandarin is an asset).
Willingness to work on a rotational schedule of 14 days on-site followed by 7 days off at Rosebel Gold Mines in Brokopondo.
