Job description

As the Assistant Superintendent Camp Services at Rosebel Gold Mines, you will support the Superintendent in managing the day-to-day operations of the Rosebel Camp. This includes oversight of Administration, Camp and Guest House accommodation, Kitchen, Laundry and Housing Services, Commissary, Camp Maintenance, and Ground Transportation. You will also assist in the execution of the long-term operational strategy for the camp, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and cost control initiatives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support and coordinate the execution of support services to improve current practices and operational performance.

  • Assist in managing the human, financial, and operational aspects of camp resources.

  • Support the development and execution of long-term strategies for camp operations.

  • Assist with operational planning and budgeting activities.

  • Support the implementation of processes, policies, systems, and practices within General Services to maximize operational efficiency and maintain competitive advantage.

  • Monitor staffing requirements and support workforce planning to ensure adequate camp staffing levels.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational projects.

  • Assist in monitoring and controlling operational costs to ensure adherence to approved budgets.

  • Support the establishment and monitoring of strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department.

  • Coordinate and follow up on delegated responsibilities and departmental objectives with Heads of Department (HODs).

  • Contribute to strengthening team capabilities to improve overall performance and employability.

  • Support succession planning initiatives to ensure continuity within the department.

  • Assist in implementing camp management systems and best practices that enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Facility Management, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience managing a remote camp, hospitality operation, accommodation facility, or similar support services environment, including at least five (5) years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience managing integrated camp services, including accommodation, housekeeping, catering, laundry, transportation, facilities maintenance, and contractor performance.

  • Strong leadership, people management, coaching, and team development skills, with proven experience leading multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

  • Experience in workforce planning, succession planning, employee development, and performance management.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining Integrated Quality Management Systems (QMS) and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong planning, budgeting, financial management, and cost-control skills, with the ability to analyze operational and financial data to support sound business decisions.

  • Experience developing and monitoring operational plans, service level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and contractor performance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is an advantage.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic mining environment.

  • Thorough understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) requirements and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch; Mandarin is considered an asset.

  • Willingness to work at the Rosebel Gold Mines site, primarily in Brokopondo, on a rotational schedule of five (5) consecutive working days (Monday to Friday), followed by two (2) consecutive days off, in accordance with operational requirements.

  • If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goed Gedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.

Working Conditions

  • Based at the Rosebel Gold Mines operation and required to work primarily on-site within the camp and general services facilities.

  • Works in a combination of office and field environments, with regular inspections of camp accommodation, guest houses, kitchen, laundry, commissary, transportation, housing, and maintenance facilities.

  • Required to work a rotational mine-site schedule and may be required to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and public holidays, to support operational requirements, emergencies, and business continuity.

  • Regular interaction with employees, contractors, service providers, visitors, and multiple internal departments to coordinate the delivery of camp services.

  • Frequent walking throughout the camp and operational areas, including exposure to outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, noise, and moving vehicles and equipment.

  • Required to comply with all Company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) standards, policies, procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements while on site.

  • Responsible for monitoring contractor performance and ensuring service delivery complies with Company standards, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.

  • Regular use of Microsoft Office applications, SAP, and other business management systems for planning, budgeting, reporting, workforce management, and operational performance monitoring.

  • May be required to travel between operational sites, company facilities, or supplier locations to support camp operations and service improvement initiatives.

  • Required to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment when handling operational, financial, and personnel-related information.
