
Job description
The Mine Geologist is responsible for overseeing activities related to the modeling and analysis of geological data and processes, ensuring that service and operational standards are consistently met. The role also involves designing and developing geological processes, practices, and methodologies, while supporting effective decision-making in mine operations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Geological Modeling & Analysis
Oversee activities related to mine geology, including geological interpretation and modeling.
Independently perform geological modeling and analysis using advanced professional knowledge.
Act as a technical advisor on geological modeling and grade control for internal and external stakeholders.
Investigate, research, and analyze geological data and related issues.
2. Technical Development & Continuous Improvement
Design and develop processes, methodologies, and best practices in mine geology.
Recommend new approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of policies related to geological modeling and grade control.
Stay current with industry trends and integrate new knowledge into operational practices.
3. Data Management & Reporting
Analyze geological and production data to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Maintain geological databases and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Reconcile mine versus mill figures, as well as mine versus reserve/resource data.
Prepare technical reports, documentation, and business cases for projects and initiatives.
Present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders.
4. Operational Support & Compliance
Monitor costs related to mine geology and implement approved efficiency improvements.
Ensure adherence to operational standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Provide guidance on ground control and other geologically related issues.
Communicate relevant geological and production information to stakeholders.
5. Leadership & Collaboration
Assign tasks to junior team members and provide mentorship and technical guidance.
Support training and skill development within the mine geology team.
Participate in task forces and cross-functional initiatives related to mine geology.
Actively seek mentorship and continuous learning to enhance technical expertise.
Job requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant professional certification or licensure in geology or mine surveying is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine geology, geological modeling, and grade control.
Proven experience in geological data analysis, modeling software, and reporting in a mining environment.
Strong expertise in geological modeling and interpretation software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, Micromine).
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management.
Understanding of geostatistical methods and orebody modeling.
Willingness to work in Brokopondo and Paramaribo on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break
A copy ID & a valid proof of good conduct “Bewijs goedgedrag”.
Good communication and interpersonal skills in English.
