Job description
Rosebel Gold Mines is seeking an experienced Principal Resource Geologist to join our mine technical services department. As the Principal Resource Geologist, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership in grade control, mine exploration and resource modelling, and work in collaboration with other departments within the organisation such as mine engineering, drill & blast and operations. The successful candidate will drive best practices in ore control, geological modelling, and workforce development, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Ore Control
Provide technical leadership to the grade control team in RC and blast hole sampling.
Oversee ore/waste packet modelling and blast pattern reviews to minimize dilution and maximize ore recovery.
Validate monthly ore production numbers and reconciliations; conduct yearly reviews of block model parameters, including variography and capping.
Maintain continuous collaboration with Drill & Blast, Mine Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of grade control data into mining activities.
Mine Exploration
Guide the exploration team in data collection, core logging, and geological interpretation.
Develop and review a conceptual 5-year exploration plan to support resource expansion.
Approve drilling campaigns for near-mine exploration, including infill and step-out drilling.
Ensure QAQC standards are applied consistently and that validated data feeds into geological and resource modelling.
Resource Modeling
Oversee the timely delivery of geological and resource models to meet corporate reporting deadlines.
Review, validate, and approve geological models and resource estimates prepared on site or by consultants.
Maintain close communication with mine planners to ensure updated resource information is integrated into short- and long-term mine designs.
Leadership and Supervision
Lead technical guidance in grade control, ore/waste modelling, and blast pattern optimization to minimize dilution.
Oversee near-mine exploration and develop long-term exploration strategies for resource expansion.
Validate geological and resource models, ensuring timely delivery to meet corporate deadlines.
Supervise and develop a large technical team, implementing succession planning and local workforce training.
Ensure compliance with Rosebel’s Health & Safety standards and company policies.
Prepare budgets and forecasts, and monitor departmental costs.
Job requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field (postgraduate qualification preferred).
Professional registration (or eligibility) with a recognized geological association.
Technical knowledge & Skills
Minimum 12 years of experience in mining operations, exploration, and resource modelling.
At least 5 years in a supervisory role within mining.
Advanced expertise in fieldwork, open pit mining, near-mine exploration, and geological modelling.
Strong knowledge of structural geology, drill & blast practices, geological mapping, and assay QAQC.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Proficiency in Leapfrog, and Minesight software.
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop large teams with varying skill levels.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and sustainable mining practices.
Willingness to work on a rotational schedule of 6 weeks on/ 3 weeks off.
